Wet Florals Publishment Behind the Scenes

Just received my copy of our most recent magazine publishment in the mail and thought I would do up a little write up about it!

I will start this off by saying I never have clients at my house (maybe one day if we ever get our basement finished!) but Emily is both a fantastic model and my kid’s fave babysitter. So she had to suffer through them throwing toys in the tub for her bath while we shot. Sorry Em, but I knew you would rock it no matter what.

Behind The Scenes

I had two VERY helpful assistants for this shoot. To get the right colour for the water I used a few bath bombs I had kickin’ around in my cupboard.

When I first started planning this shoot the original idea was to use a shallow kid pool. Heads up, it’s not a good time to buy a kids pool in February, there were none to be found. I did locate one from a fellow photographer, but I went to pick it up and it didn’t fit in our car. So it was back to the drawing board the night before the shoot. I decided after everything to just go ahead with the shoot and use the tub, I could always extend the water if needed (which I did!)

I always love working with Emily, she is such a versatile model and always give 150%. Because I had publishment in mind, I didn’t want to overshoot (which is a problem for me!) But I wanted to be able to spend that extra time on retouching.

The florals themselves were not what I had in mind originally. Which I love! It completely changed what I had imagined and Chelsea from Fern and Frond elevated the look for us completely. I wouldn’t have thought to use such a vivid colour for the water without the vibrant colours of the blooms. I approach all things collaboratively, I prefer to leave much up to the experts!

This backdrop was also spur of the moment! I have been collecting lace pieces for the last year and a half and because I don’t have a dedicated studio I thought, eh why not! And I’m so glad I threw it up because they are some of my favourite shots.

Ginger created a very polished look for Emily. It didn’t detract from anything and she has this magic touch that is never over done. So grateful to get to create with all these amazing women.

This fab little top I had purchased from Thrift Monster and kept forgetting to pack in my shoot case for my client closet. It was a fun little piece for sure. Layah always does an amazing job styling my clients & models.

All of this as shot in under 30 minutes. And there are more photos I’m sure I could add to the collection, but we all agreed that we would rather have a handful of showstoppers and we got them! Thanks for reading along!
